Nullarbor, WA - Maps, photographs and video

711 kilometres was by far the longest single day journey we had undertaken so far.

Caravan park fee for 2 nights - $50.00

Visited the 'Head of Bight' to see Whales looking after their young. The view of the coast line was spectacular.

This is the second caravan park encountered that does not supply water, however we have plenty in the caravan tanks. Toilets and showers (pay for use) are available.

Border town as you would imagine is at a state border - In this case between Western Australia and South Australia

298 Kilometres from Ceduna to the Nullarbor Road House

Surprising good reception for both TV and Broadband so able to update the blog. Have some photographs of the journey. Will add flight photographs tomorrow.

Flight over the Bight - $240

Caravan site - $48 for two nights

Petrol - $126.00 ($1.36 per litre)

Memories - Priceless!!!

There is nothing around the roadhouse. Even both the GPS systems we had couldn't find the road house! However we knew it was about 296 kilometres from Ceduna so just set the trip meters and headed along the Eyre Highway!

Nullarbor, SA - The caravan park

The first thing we saw on entering the Nullarbor road house caravan park was a light plane!. On talking to the pilot we arrange for a 10am flight along the Bight where we expected to see Wales and a coast line to die for (well not literally!). This was the first caravan park that did not supply water, although one could spend $1 for a 5 minute shower.

Given that our showers would last longer than 5 minutes, it begged the question - Where does one keep the dollar coins???

We were informed that Dingoes were roaming around, We saw one in the caravan park, and incidently, we saw one on the return trip (pretty sure it was the same one!) Maybe it gets fed to put in a guest performance for the travellers!!!!!!!!!!!

Nullarbor, SA - The Journey

It was a couple of hours into the drive before we saw the landscape we had expected. Up to that point in time, the landscape was green, with an abundance of trees. On one occassion I wondered if I had taken the wrong road!. We soon encountered the sparce landscape that we had read about, approximately 100 kilometres from or destination of the Nullarbor road house. We saw a lot of road trains along the way. The roads were as they have always been; runways that disappeared out out sight, joined by the customary bump or bend in the road.
